| | | | The IUCN Global Standard serves as a comprehensive tool for use throughout the entire lifecycle of NbS projects from the initial design phase to the final stages of monitoring and scaling. Conceived as a self-assessment tool, the IUCN allows practitioners to standardize the design and implementation of NbS through its eight Criteria and 28 Indicators. These guide the design, implementation, and management of NbS, support continuous improvement and help identify gaps while generating recommendations for effective solutions. |
| | 3rd periodic meeting of NATMed Prima Project, Seville, Spain, 14-15 May 2024 – Case Study 1 |
| | The 3rd periodic meeting of NATMed Prima Project took place in Seville on 14-15 May, organized by the project partner Amaya (Agencia de Medio Ambiente y Agua de Andalucia). The meeting focused on reviewing the progress made during the 1st year of the project, discussing lessons learned, and organizing further steps. A huge ‘thank you’ to Amaya for the warm hospitality and interesting case study tour! |
| EXPLORE NATMED CASE STUDIES |
| Case Study 1 Carrión de los Céspedes Living Lab, Spain |
| One of the five NATMed case studies is based in Carrión de los Céspedes in Spain, within an area of 4.1 Ha. Through mainly public investment, this experimental center serves as a Living Lab for the co-creation, experimentation, and evaluation of water innovative products and wastewater treatment and storage facility. Under the guidance of the NATMed partners CENTA - AMAYA, CARTIF, Social Climate - Social Innovation for Climate Action, and NBSCLIMATE the case study will be implemented and evaluated. |
| | | Case Study 2 Lake system Chimaditida, Greece |
| The Greek Case Study of Lake Chimaditida, located in Northwestern Greece, is part of NATMed's pilot activities. In an area of 960 ha, the shallow lake is part of a lake complex along with three more lakes in the surrounding area. These are further coupled with small hills and a large crop area where large seasonal wetlands are formed close to the fields. The area houses the endangered species Aythya nyroca and provides an important habitat for birds and rare flora species while it also belongs to the EU Natura 2000, SPA, and SAC. |
| | | Case Study 3 Arborea farming district, Italy |
| One of the five NATMed case studies is the farming district of Arborea in central-western Sardinia, within an area of 6.000 Ha that represents one of the most productive agricultural sites in Italy and is identified as a Nitrates Vulnerable Zone (NVZ). Implementing Nature-based Solutions (NbS) to mitigate nitrate pollution in aquifers could help ease the stringent nitrogen load management measures in the Arborea Plain and potentially resolve the ongoing infringement procedures. Carried out by the NATMed partner University of Sassari (NRD-UNISS) and supported by the Farmers’ Cooperative of Arborea and the Land Reclamation Consortium of Oristano. |
