Nature-based Solutions on existing infrastructures for resilient Water Management in the Mediterranean

NATMed 1st webinar on Nature-based Solutions Business Models

On April 16, 2025, the NATMed PRIMA Project successfully held its first official webinar, focusing on one of the most critical topics in the nature-based solutions (NbS) landscape: innovative business models that can unlock investment and ensure long-term sustainability.

The session brought together thought leaders and practitioners in the NbS space, featuring two speakers:

  • Siobhán McQuaid (GoNaturePositive!, Horizon Nua, Invest4Nature)
  • Monica A. Altamirano de Jong (ALTAMIRA)

Their presentations offered valuable insights into innovative business models that help attract investment, ensure financial sustainability, and integrate NbS into mainstream water and land management practices. Emphasis was placed on creating business cases that balance ecological benefits with economic feasibility, involving public-private collaboration, and adapting solutions to local contexts.

The webinar also featured an interactive discussion with participants, highlighting:

  • Key elements of effective NbS business models
  • The importance of aligning stakeholder interests
  • Practical challenges in scaling up NbS across regions

This session is closely aligned with NATMed’s objectives to promote Full Water-Cycle Nature-based Solutions (FWC-NbS), by supporting tools and strategies that enable their implementation, replication, and long-term sustainability.

This event marked the beginning of a series of capacity-building activities planned within the project framework, aiming to strengthen knowledge exchange and stakeholder engagement across NATMed’s partner countries.
