Nature-based Solutions on existing infrastructures for resilient Water Management in the Mediterranean

Arborea farming district, 1st MedCoP meeting, Italy, 24 May 2023 – Case study 3

Our partner  Università degli Studi di Sassari (UNISS) organized on 24th of May the 1st MedCoP meeting to capitalize on the research and innovation experiences gained in recent years within various projects and to synergistically coordinate future actions to mitigate nitrate pollution in the NVZ of Arborea.

The initiative included a field visit to the FIA for groundwater decontamination (pilot plant implemented and managed within the MENAWARA and NATMed projects) and a discussion aimed at sharing the latest updates on the current situation in the NVZ of Arborea and also identifying new collaborative/participatory working methods for the design of synergistic actions in the NVZ of Arborea.

Possible actions in the future were identified, such as improving the capacity to understand the dynamics related to nitrate groundwater pollution and also system actions establishing a permanent Living Lab to systematize the various initiatives and enhance public-private synergies.
